Standing up to Leisure Sickness.

10 tips against Leisure Sickness

With a few simple but effective tips you can defy Leisure Sickness!
1) Do you recognise stressful situations at all or is the whole day one big stress? Be aware of stress, but also of non-stressful phases during the day. How do you feel in both situations and what signals does your body send out? Being aware that you have a stress problem is the basis for sustainable improvement.

2) Do you, or your body, actually still know the difference between being tense and not being tense? What symptoms do you notice in both phases? Learn suitable relaxation techniques to gently regulate the cortisol level in stress in a natural way. When a person is relaxed, less of the stress hormone is also released. Your body does not get used to the permanently high level.

3) Strengthen your immune system. The high level of cortisol only pretends that you are physically well. As soon as the hormone from the adrenal cortex is missing, viruses and infections strike without mercy. Prepare it for the next resting phase with homeopathic and herbal remedies. Get advice at the pharmacy and strengthen your own body's defences.

4) Sport is an ideal balance for stress sufferers and gives you the opportunity to meet new people, learn a new sport and, above all, find thoughts and topics that have nothing to do with daily work or the actual stress trigger. Distraction regulates the currents in the brain and makes you forget everything that happened during the day. In addition, endurance sports in particular strengthen the immune system at the same time. Jogging, swimming and cycling are best suited to recharge necessary reserves in the body.

5) Get moving on holiday, too, because fresh air and exercise provide variety and the necessary mental distance from everyday life. In addition, you explore the area and the hotel complex at the same time and can make new acquaintances. The level of sport can be lower than at home. It's not about performance and pressure to perform, but rather about light exercise that is ideally also fun.

6) Prepare for your holiday and "practise" taking it easy in advance. Small breaks at lunchtime, a walk or a pampering full bath give your body the opportunity to get used to resting and relaxing. Do what feels good to you and enjoy the short phases to the full.

7) Prepare your holiday well and don't fall into the "I'll pack a day in advance - that's enough" rhythm. Even if it sounds as if friends and acquaintances would easily manage the preparations for the long-awaited and needed annual holiday within the shortest time - most of the time this is simply impersonation and is meant to prevent you from realising that pure chaos reigns. Timely preparation is not conservative boring, but clever and forward-looking. A list can help to mentally pack the suitcase and reveal what still needs to be purchased. Who will look after the house cat and who will water the flowers in the garden? The early bird catches the worm, or rather the neighbour. Shortly before the holiday season, everyone is usually already busy with family members and friends.

8) Time management is not just a fancy word in the upper echelons of many large companies, but a practical tool for allocating the available time sensibly and sorting tasks according to priorities. If you have a firm grip on time management, you leave nothing to chance and are more organised than your colleagues. Keep track of your time allotment, set start and end points and prioritise your tasks.

9) Learn to say "no". Forget about guilty consciences and feelings of guilt. Accept yourself as the most important and defend your own space with clear refusals. You are important, then everything else comes first.

10) Nature is not only beautiful, but sometimes radiates sunny calm, is sometimes amusing or exhilarating and can work wonders. The reservoir around the corner, a hiking trail nearby or cycling along the canal. Every weather, every region and every mood is suitable for getting out into nature. Don't let Leisure Sickness rob you of precious time with loved ones. Clear your head for new things and give your body more rest. This not only spares your nerves, but also promotes your health.
