Definition of "carpal tunnel syndrome
A narrowing in the tendon compartment of the wrist causes the typical carpal tunnel syndrome and causes the median arm nerve to become pinched.
However, this nerve supplies different parts of the hand, so the symptoms vary:
- the hand falls asleep
- the person suffers from numbness
- sensory disturbances develop
- pain develops
- Late consequences could be paralysis or functional disorders.
According to orthodox medicine, the causes or risk factors of carpal tunnel syndrome are as follows:
- Narrow carpal tunnel
- Heredity
- Strain on the wrist
- Injuries
- Inflammations
- Rheumatism
- Renal insufficiency
- Water retention
- Thyroid gland over- or underfunction
- Diabetes
- Overweight
- hormonal changes
Women are affected about three times more often than men!
