Mycoplasma genitalium (genital mycoplasma) is a bacterium that infects mucosal cells of the urogenital tract.

The Mycoplasma genitalium bacterium is sexually transmissible

Since mycoplasmas do not have a cell wall, antibiotics that interfere with the biosynthesis of the bacterial cell wall are ineffective.

Currently, resistance to macrolide antibiotics, which are administered as alternative antibiotics, is increasing.
